We met Veronica in 2016, when we moved to Rushfield Road in Chester. To me, Veronica was never defined by her age, but by her energy, honesty, and her determination to live well. She led her life with remarkable independence and joy. Even in her late eighties she joined us on camping trips in remote Anglesey, and during the pandemic she became part of our close bubble. After turning 90, she twice travelled to Geneva to visit us. She was wonderfully active here, enjoying our company as much as we enjoyed hers.
Veronica relished a challenge: whether learning German, taking on Latin, or keeping to her walking and healthy eating habits. She loved her cat, her apple trees, and the Irish Eye rose in her garden. I admired her that she spoke her mind with determination and conviction.
For me, Veronica was never “an old lady,” but a true and dear friend and an inspiration, proof that curiosity and determination have no age.
We miss her already!
